It’s a sad day for the racing world of motorcycles! Dutch superbikes star Victor Steeman died after suffering injuries in his participation in the World Supersports 300 (WorldSSP300) Championship in Portugal. The death of the 22-year-old racer was made public in the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
A Star Gone Too Soon…
Victor Steeman, a professional motorcyclist, died at the age of 22 following an incredibly violent crash at the World Supersports 300 (WorldSSP300) Championship in Portugal on Saturday (Oct. 8). The tragic information was confirmed by Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
The FIM said that Steeman suffered serious injuries as a result of the multi-rider accident that was triggered at turn 14 at the start of the Championship race, in Portugal. Racing officials also stated, “Medical personnel and vehicles arrived at the site immediately and the rider was attended to trackside and at the circuit medical centre before being transferred by helicopter to Faro Hospital.”
Unfortunately, even no matter how hard they tried, the circuit’s medical personnel marshals, medical staff, and hospital personnel did not yield results. Steeman passed away after being admitted to the hospital the following day (Oct. 11.). The report states that Steeman was diagnosed with polytrauma as well as an injury to his head in the aftermath of the collision. If you’re not aware that polytrauma is an illness that causes the body too has suffered injuries to organs as a result of “blast-related events”.
An Ace Race With A Heart Of Gold…
Being a member of a racing family has its own set of risks, something they are aware of. But, their worst fears became a reality when Steeman was “involved in an awful crash on Turn 14 at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.”
The family of Victor Steeman released an uncompromising statement saying “Something you’ve always worried about as the parent of a motorbike racer has happened. Their family of Victor did not take home the victory in this final race. In spite of the terrible sadness and loss, We are extremely happy to tell us that our beloved hero, in the wake of his death and his death, managed to save five others through the donation of the organs of his deceased friend.” In fact, Victor donated his organs to save the lives of five others before finally departing for his eternal home in heaven.
The family of Victor said “We would like to express our gratitude to everyone for how you’ve stayed with us during the last few days. We will grieve the loss of Victor tremendously.” Regarding his racing career and his track record, the Dutch motorcyclist began his journey in the World Supersport 300 full-time in 2019 and was a part of his MTM Kawasaki team. In the course of his season, he scored five podiums, four wins along with three pole positions, while creating history by securing the highest pole positions of the World Supersport 300 class at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya.
The year 2020 was the first time Steemna participated for his first German IDM title in the 600-class. He won each race and ended the year in fifth place. In the previous year, he made his return in 2021’s Supersport 300 World Championship.
When he raced in the Czech Republic, he secured the second pole position and also won the race he started in. But, he ended his season with a tenth. He has an excellent chance of winning the final race, but ultimately, he was unable to finish due to injuries. Although he faced an extended road ahead of him, however, he left plenty in his wake and his supporters to remember.
