Microsoft Launches Surface Laptop 5 – Features, Specs, and Price

Microsoft has released the Surface Laptop 5, powered by Intel 12th Gen Chips and Thunderbolt 4 Support. The new laptop will be available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch versions. This is everything you need about Microsoft Surface Laptop 5.

The laptop was only updated by the tech giant, which didn’t make any changes. There are also no AMD variants. Microsoft did not explain why AMD was removed from the Surface Laptop 5 lineup, despite the Surface Laptop 4’s processor.

Microsoft’s Surface Event was held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Microsoft also revealed the Surface Pro 9 2-in-1 detachable 2-in-1 tablet and a new Surface Studio 2 Plus all-in-one desktop.

Surface Laptop 5: What’s new this time?

Microsoft hasn’t made any significant changes to Surface Laptop 5, except for the addition of the successor number and the refresh of the machine with 12th Generation chips. Surface Laptop 5 is available in two sizes: 13.5-inch or 15-inch.

The most significant change to the Surface Laptop 4 last year is the switch to Intel’s 12th-generation Core processors. The i5-1245U and -i7-1265U will be available to buyers. Microsoft claims that the performance is up to 50% faster than the Surface Laptop 4, and that the battery life is better.

You can also choose from faster DDR5 memory, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB with a stronger processor. You have the option of storage options: 256GB,512GB or 1TB removable solid state drive. There are currently no AMD processors.

The Surface Laptop 5 has fewer ports. Only one USB-C port is available, along with a USB 3.1 port and a combo headset connector. There’s also a Surface Connect port. The USB-C port has been upgraded to USB 4.0/ Thunderbolt 4 as a major upgrade.

Microsoft failed to make the most of its built-in webcams. They are left with a 720p HD resolution, whereas other manufacturers offer 1080p HD and sharper options.

Surface Laptop 5 Price: What is the price?

Microsoft has set the Surface Laptop 5’s starting price at $1,000. This is for the 13.5-inch model. The 15″ variant will cost $1300. There are five colours available: Platinum (Alcantara), Platinum(Metal), Sage, Black (Metal), and Sandstone (Metal).
