Performer Robbie Coltrane, known for portraying the beloved Half-giant Rubeus Hagrid from Harry Potter, has passed away. Harry Potter films was a former actor who passed away. He was 72 years old. The actor passed away in the hospital at Falkirk, Scotland, but the cause of death hasn’t been released as of yet.
Coltrane was a professional actor for four decades. career and received worldwide acclaim for his performance as Hagrid. He was part of all his Harry Potter films starting with the Sorcerer’s stone (2001) until Death Hallows – Part 2 (2011).
Robbie Coltrane Passes Away at 72
Agent for Coltrane Belinda Wright has confirmed the sad news via an announcement. She said the actor was an exceptional talent who “brought happiness to kids and adults all over the globe” through his character Hagrid.
“For me personally, I’ll be able to remember him as an enduringly loyal client. In addition to being a fantastic actor, he also was also forensically clever, extremely witty and after nearly 40 years of being privileged to be his agent, I’ll be sad to lose him,” she said.
Wright ended by saying “He remains with his sibling Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell. They would like to express their gratitude to all the staff of Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care and professionalism. Respect the privacy of Robbie’s family in this difficult time.”
J.K. Rowling Pays Tribute
The writer of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling has been paying tribute to Coltrane via a tweet. “I’ll never have a friend as good as Robbie in my life again. He was an amazing talent, an absolutely unique individual, and I was beyond lucky to meet him, collaborate with him and amuse myself with him. I extend my heartfelt love and my deepest condolences for his family, and most especially his children.” she wrote.
The first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon also expressed her sorrow and declared, “He had such range and depth as an actor, ranging from amazing comedy to hard-edged drama. I believe my favourite of his performances is Fitz from Cracker. Robbie Coltrane, Scottish entertainment legend. You will be greatly missed. RIP.”
Stephen Fry, starred alongside Coltrane as Coltrane in Alfresco and wrote “Such power, profundity, and talent. Funny enough to trigger hiccups and honking when we made our first television show Alfresco. Goodbye, dear old friend You’ll be greatly missed.”
Coltrane made their Screen Debut in 1983
While Robbie is well-known across the globe for his work in the Harry Potter films but he’s also involved in a variety of hit television series and films. Born on March 30, 1950, in Rutherglen, Scotland, the actor made his debut on screen with the sketch show Alfresco in 1983.
The year was 1987 and he was a star in the BBC Scotland drama Tutti Frutti which brought the actor his very first Best Actor nomination at the British Academy Television Awards. Robbie was also in the two James Bond films: GoldenEye in 1995 and The World Is Not Enough in 1999. Following his involvement in the Harry Potter franchise was over, he appeared on the Channel 4 drama National Treasure in the year 2016 receiving a variety of Best Actor awards.
Robbie was also in HBO Max’s Return to Hogwarts 20th anniversary special, which will air in January 2022. He was also featured along with his former cast members. “The film’s legacy is that my generation will be able to show them to their children. This means that you can be watching it 50 years in the future, which is easy. I’ll be absent regretfully however Hagrid will, and yes,” he had said during the ceremony.
