‘Route 66’ Star George Maharis Dies at 94

At the moment, the world is reeling from the loss of the renowned Hollywood actor George Maharis. He was best known for playing the role of brooding Buz Murdock in the 1960s acclaimed CBS series Route 66. He passed away at the age of 94.

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, George’s long-time friend and caregiver Marc Bahan, mentioned that the beloved actor passed away on Wednesday, at the home he shared with his family at Beverly Hills. Read on to find out what caused George Maharis’s death.

What was the reason behind George Maharis’s demise?

George’s close friend Marc Bahan confirmed the news of his death via a recent post on Facebook. As of the date of his death at the age of 94, he was old. He went to his eternal place of rest on Wednesday. In the present the exact cause of the death of his father remains unsolved.

Marc said, “George Maharis passed away on May 25, 2003. George is well-known for his fame on Route 66 and performances on stage, his singing and artist, but most of all, a wonderful person who will offer anything to anyone. Dear friend, you’ll be greatly missed.”

George Maharis was an actor and singer born on the 1st of September 1928 at Astoria, New York. He was among the seven children. The parents of his had been Greek immigrants. In the past his school was Flushing High School and soon following, he was a member of the Navy United States  After that, Maharis attended his Actor’s Studio and started working on off-Broadway productions. His first TV performance came to the first light of the day in the year 1958 in “The Muggar.

Soon afterward, George appeared in television shows like Naked City, Exodus, and Search for Tomorrow. The year was 1960 and he landed the part of Buz Murdock for his collection. In the following years, he had to end the show because of health problems.

What made George Maharis leave the show “Route66”?

For those who don’t know, we’ll inform you that George was forced to end his involvement in famous 1960s CBS series Route 66 midway season 3 due to health issues. He was later diagnosed with the virus known as hepatitis.

In a 2008 interview in 2008 with The Seattle Times, Maharis stated that the show “was really kind of a searching or what you may have seen hundreds of years ago where the people came over the mountains to go from one place to the other to find a better life, a place where they belonged, and they didn’t rely on anybody else to do it for them.”

The credits for George’s films include the films Quick before It melts (1964), Sylvia (1965), A Covenant with Death (1967) and The In the Beginning (1967). In addition George also appeared on several TV shows, including Night Gallery, Mission: Impossible, Barnaby Jones, Rich Man, Poor Man, The Bionic Woman, Kojak, Medical Center, Shaft, The Snoop Sisters along with Fantasy Island.
